Cathx Ocean

Produces subsea imaging and sensor technology used by environmental scientists and oceanographers for high-speed seafloor surveying.

//Overview

Cathx Ocean, a subsea technology company, develops imaging, sensing, edge computing, and workflow software for underwater operations. It takes an integrated approach that turns subsea data into immediate insights by combining sensors, onboard processing, and automated workflows and data agents that can run on the vehicle, whether developed by Cathx or by the customer. Its technologies can be used independently too, so customers can pick individual components or combine them into a complete system depending on operational needs. On the hardware side, the business covers subsea cameras and lasers designed to capture ultra-clear, precision data in harsh shallow-water and deepwater conditions. Those sensors aim to produce reliable optical data, support imaging at speed, and provide the clarity needed for later processing and insight generation. Cathx offers edge hardware that performs data processing directly on the vehicle or sensor, including AI model inference without waiting for onshore processing. In parallel, its edge workflow software orchestrates, deploys, and manages data agents and AI models for automated event detection and actionable insights at the edge. The software layer centers on Clarity, a runtime engine for real-time data processing and eventing at the edge. Clarity supports modular data agents, including Cathx-developed and customer-defined detection algorithms, and its workflows can be configured and deployed through the Clarity UI. The platform works sensor agnostically, with support for laser data and open-standard imagery and with room to integrate additional sensors as mission requirements evolve. That modular design enables sensor fusion, where multiple data streams come together into coherent datasets for faster decisions. Cathx serves defense, offshore energy, and marine research, and it frames its work around autonomous and uncrewed subsea operations. Its equipment suits AUVs and other subsea vehicles, with applications involving automated detection, change detection, and processing data at the point of capture to reduce post-mission effort and speed decisions underwater.
