Designs and manufactures 3D forward-looking sonar systems for navigation and obstacle avoidance on vessels and unmanned platforms.

//Overview

FarSounder makes 3D forward-looking sonar systems for vessel navigation. Its underwater sensing technology supports safe navigation by detecting in-water obstacles and shallows ahead of a vessel and rendering that information in a 3-dimensional display over nautical charts. The systems target obstacle avoidance and shallow-water navigation, and they suit many vessel types, among them yachts, cruise ships, research survey vessels, defense and government vessels, fisheries, and small commercial vessels. Products are built for both new-build and refit installations, so a sonar can go into a hull under construction or into a vessel already in service. Fixed installations use no moving parts, with wet-mateable connectors and fairing designs suited to steel, aluminum, and composite hulls, so the same product line can be fitted to hulls of different materials. Hoist-mounted configurations are available for some models, along with integration with third-party navigation systems. The Argos navigation sonars come in three range classes: 350, 500, and 1000 meters. The Argos 350 suits mid-sized vessels, the Argos 500 suits mid-sized vessels needing longer range, and the Argos 1000 suits larger mid-sized vessels and higher-speed use. Across the product line the sonars use phased array technology to produce the full 3D image from a single ping, and they provide features such as True Target Motion, Local History Mapping, chart overlay, bottom mapping, and user-defined alarms. Direct integration into third-party systems runs through the product line as well, and an SDK is available for some configurations. Beyond product sales, FarSounder supports customers through installation, service, training, dealer support, computer requirements guidance, software update requests, and dealer relationships. Integration options and shipyard-related sales support round out that picture. The business therefore covers both the hardware deployment itself and the ongoing customer support around its navigation sonar systems, from the choice of range class and hull fairing at the outset through to software updates and servicing once the sonar is in use.
