Gardline is a multidisciplinary marine survey company delivering data-driven insight to the offshore energy market, and is a wholly owned subsidiary of Royal Boskalis Westminster N.V. Its registered office is in Great Yarmouth, Norfolk. The company works across three linked disciplines, geophysical, geotechnical and environmental survey, and presents itself as a one-stop shop providing fully integrated, turn-key solutions for clients in the offshore wind and oil and gas industries, with cutting edge technology underpinned by science-based research and development.
Geophysical work is the core capability. Gardline has extensive experience in the acquisition and processing of 2D and 3D seismic data, specialising in high resolution and ultra-high resolution seismic, and offers a range of air gun sources to suit the requirement. Related geophysical services include site investigation surveys, 3D geohazard assessment, unexploded ordnance surveys, cable and pipeline route surveys, seabed mapping and nearshore work. Geotechnical services cover offshore geotechnical drilling, seabed sampling, vibrocoring and cone penetration testing, and laboratory analysis, with shallow and deep push CPTU quoted from 5m to 40m. Environmental services extend to marine mammal observation, passive acoustic monitoring, marine acoustics and broader marine environmental science, which the company describes as end-to-end marine science including marine wildlife services.
Delivery rests on a fleet of permanently mobilised, multi-role survey vessels crewed by in-house survey professionals with specialist equipment, deployable in the optimum configuration for a given project. Named vessels include the multi-role survey vessels Ocean Reliance, Ocean Resolution and Ocean Observer, the Kommandor, and the geotechnical drilling vessels Ocean Vantage and Horizon Geodiscovery. Ocean Resolution is described as a purpose-designed DP2 survey vessel of 80m length overall and 18m beam, SPS compliant with a diesel electric power plant, configured to run simultaneous survey operations from a single mobilisation including 2D and 3D high resolution seismic, shallow geotechnical work with a 100kN CPT deployed through the vessel's moonpool, and environmental sampling through side A-frames, with bespoke back deck handling systems and crew comfort in mind.
Data quality is presented as a differentiator. All acquired data is quality controlled onboard according to Gardline's quality assurance system, and can be processed and interpreted onboard to client requirements so that features or issues of interest are identified early in a project. The company describes itself as staying involved from tender response through to report sign off so that project phases hand over smoothly. Its published insights cover marine mammal research, poorly studied regions and Gardline data that led to the discovery of ice age landscapes described as new to science.
