International Submarine Engineering

Designs and builds autonomous underwater vehicles and other submersible systems for ocean operations and research.

//Overview

International Submarine Engineering (ISE) designs, manufactures, integrates, and supports autonomous and remotely operated robotic systems for underwater, terrestrial, and other specialized applications. Its core business covers autonomous underwater vehicles, remotely operated vehicles, human occupied and hybrid submersibles, semi-submersible vehicles, robotic manipulators, control systems, and related subsea equipment. The company develops custom tele-operated and autonomous robotic systems, communications and real-time control systems, and equipment for hydraulic, pneumatic, and electric robotic manipulation. It supplies systems and components such as antennae, hydraulic power units, ballast systems, and electronics boards that support vehicle operation and subsea missions. ISE serves commercial, scientific, military, public-sector, offshore oil, nuclear, and other specialist markets, which puts research users and naval operators on the same customer roster. Its vehicles and systems handle route survey, surveillance, mine countermeasures, defense missions, cable laying, and other subsea operations. The company has supplied vehicles to navies including the Canadian Navy, the US Navy, the French Navy, the Japanese Defense Force, and the Australian Navy, and it has built systems for land, marine, and space applications. It offers both off-the-shelf products and customized systems, depending on customer mission requirements. Modularity defines much of the business, and it comes up again and again across the vehicles and the equipment built around them. Modular system design runs through the product range, intended to improve longevity, simplify maintenance, and let vehicles adapt to new requirements. That approach appears in the Explorer AUV, the Aurora Towfish, and other systems with configurable hulls, payload sections, and support equipment. ISE surrounds its products with integration and support, including launch and recovery systems, autonomous docking capability, spare parts, specialized tools, and control consoles. Its work combines product development, manufacturing, testing, and field support, with attention to systems that can be maintained, upgraded, and tailored to demanding operational environments such as deep water, Arctic ice, and naval service.
