Builds broadband/wideband multibeam echosounder systems for hydrographic and marine survey applications.
R2Sonic designs and manufactures multibeam echosounders for underwater survey and mapping, working under the line Our Vision is Sound. Its portfolio is deliberately compact and is built around the Sonic-V Series, four multibeam sonar models that share one architecture and are differentiated by beamwidth and range. The Sonic 2026-V gives 0.45 by 0.45 degree beamwidth at 450kHz with sounding depth beyond 800m and low frequency options at 90 and 100kHz; the Sonic 2024-V is 0.45 by 0.9 degrees and is aimed at ROV and AUV work and at monitoring pipelines and cables; the Sonic 2022-V is 0.9 by 0.9 degrees; and the Sonic 2020-V is 2.0 by 2.0 degrees. All four use user-selectable operating frequencies that can be changed on the fly in 1Hz increments, produce 1024 independent soundings per ping at a 3mm bottom detect resolution, ship with mounting hardware, and take free firmware updates that can be applied remotely. Each system is sold either as a standalone unit or as the Sonic-V Plus Series, a factory-fitted package in a single case that adds an embedded INS, the VOX-IM, an SV Probe, antennas, cables and a mounting bracket. The compact VOX-IM accepts AC and DC power and runs the VOX Control user interface, and a VOX-IM OEM version weighing under 2lbs, with raw connectors and pins for I/O and sensor connectivity, is offered to builders embedding the sonar into custom AUV and USV designs. What sets the approach apart is that capability is sold the way software is. Four standard technical modes come with every sonar and up to four more can be added at any time, remotely and in the field, among them Ultra High Density (UHD), Ultra High Resolution (UHR), Pipeline Mode, TruePix, Compressed Water Column, Multispectral Backscatter, Multifrequency Bathymetry and Forward Looking Sonar (FLS). The systems are agnostic to the acquisition and data processing software a customer already runs. Alongside the Sonic range sits the Voxometer, an MA3 Multi-Aspect Survey System built on new patented technologies and intended to reduce survey time and complexity. Systems are integrated on AUVs, ROVs, ASVs and USVs and on small, surface and large vessels, and the company lists applications across dredging, quay walls and vertical structures, charting, pipeline inspections, inland surveys, ports, harbors, mining, marine construction, offshore windfarms, oil and gas, research and water column survey. Around the hardware it provides support at all hours with repairs and maintenance done by its own engineers, in-class and hands-on training including online courses, a Knowledge Hub with manuals and FAQs, the R2Calculate tool, and a three year warranty with an optional six year extension.
