Designs marine monitoring systems for surface and subsea vessels, including environmental and oceanographic sensing equipment used in challenging offshore condi

//Overview

SubCtech GmbH is a German manufacturer of ocean and subsea technology based in Kiel, working across two business units it calls Ocean Power and Ocean Monitoring. The company states more than 15 years of experience and describes itself as established among leading manufacturers of ocean and subsea technology for industry and science. Ocean Power covers lithium-ion battery systems for underwater and offshore use: subsea and UPS batteries, ROV and AUV batteries, high power underwater rechargeable packs, vehicle batteries built into the Li-Ion PowerPack for AUVs and other vehicles, high-performance energy storage systems for offshore subsea applications, customised batteries built to requirement, and charger technology that charges the PowerPacks safely and gently. Applications run from marine research and monitoring to offshore industrial oil and gas projects, and the company offers qualifications according to API17F, MIL-STD, UN T38.3, DNV-GL and others. Recent milestones it reports include demonstrating 50 kW continuous power for a 600 V-class AUV battery system and building a 1 MWh battery system for subsea deployment. Ocean Monitoring covers autonomous underway measurement systems of the FerryBox type for pCO2 and other parameters, from ultra-compact instruments up to complete rack systems. The OceanPack family includes a 19 inch rack version that packages power supply, data logger and water system so it can run unattended and measure water parameters, with space for optional sensors or automatic cleaning; a compact CUBE using the 19 inch industrial standard format; a RACE version for climate data acquisition at the ocean-atmosphere interface; and an AQUA version for aqua and maritime systems. Subsea products include a pCO2 buoy analyzer for precise measurements in shallow water, a Lander pCO2 subsea analyzer for the deep sea, frames carrying a data logger and sensors for connection to an ROV or AUV, the NetDI deck unit data logger for measuring, controlling and regulation tasks, the Li-Ion PowerLogger combining subsea data loggers with the lithium-ion technology of the PowerPacks, a subsea NetDI logger, and a MicroDI logger designed for rough environmental conditions. Atmospheric measurement uses the Top-Box, deployed together with the OceanPack underway system to measure air CO2. The line is completed by nutrient analyzers, OceanView software, the OceanXpert sensor family for greenhouse gas monitoring, and plankton and microplastic samplers. The company produces optical CO2 analyzers with autocalibration according to the SOCAT standard. Its stated philosophy is highest quality and reliability with innovative, flexible and customized solutions, backed by a flexible R&D department that works on specific customer requirements. Alongside products it lists service, consulting, a sales partner network and downloads. Company news records a move into new headquarters in Kiel and an acquisition by Gabler Maschinenbau GmbH, a member of the Possehl Group.
