TGS
Delivers marine geoscience data and ocean-bottom node seismic acquisition services used in offshore energy exploration and development.
TGS is an energy data and intelligence company serving companies and stakeholders across the energy value chain. Its business centers on collecting, curating, and delivering subsurface and other energy-related data, then turning that information into actionable insights that help customers make exploration, production, and development decisions with less uncertainty. Rather than a single product line, it runs a broad platform combining a large data library, acquisition capabilities, imaging expertise, and digital tools. A major part of the business is its multi-client data library and seismic coverage. TGS provides regional and detailed subsurface data across mature, emerging, and frontier basins worldwide, including marine and onshore areas. Its holdings include seismic data, gravity and magnetic surveys, and reprocessed datasets that support mapping, imaging, and interpretation of complex geology. In the Orange Basin, that data library and those imaging capabilities have been used to understand hydrocarbon exploration potential, link discoveries to unexplored acreage, and identify traps, reservoirs, and migration pathways, work that serves regional understanding as well as more focused exploration. TGS performs acquisition and processing as well. Its marine seismic acquisition includes the Gemini Enhanced Frequency Source, a single-element marine seismic source designed to improve low-frequency energy for clearer imaging and better velocity models. Source-separation technology through Apparition Geoservices GmbH increases source capacity and acquisition efficiency. These capabilities form part of a broader marine acquisition offering that combines survey design, acquisition, imaging, and project delivery. Beyond traditional oil and gas exploration, TGS works across the wider energy spectrum, taking in solar, carbon, wind, and marine-related activities along with new energy and renewable-focused data. It supplies independent data to governments and stakeholders for resource policy, licensing, and long-term development strategy. The distinctive feature of the company is the combination of global subsurface data, acquisition technology, advanced imaging, and digital solutions aimed at helping users make data-driven decisions across multiple energy markets, from a frontier basin with little existing coverage to a mature producing area being reassessed.
